The Russian History Scholarly Journals Are Here!

Just arrived in the mail in the last couple of weeks are
The Russian Review, volume 74 (since 1941)!  The issue is devoted to the topic of "Asia and the East in Contemporary Russian Culture."
The Slavic Review, also volume 74 (also since 1941)! This issue has the topic of "Redefining Community in the Late Soviet Union."  I've got really no interest in either of those topical discussions.

The Russian history journals are still sitting on my desk. I've put off reading them for a while.

Nice article in the current issue of Slavic Review by Edward Geist, "Political Fallout: The Failure of Emergency Management at Chrenobyl." While only some of the details surrounding the explosion and emergency are covered, Geist clearly shows that the Soviet authorities were not well equipped to deal with the emergency because of overlapping institutional priorities, which, after all, was one of the basic features of the Stalinist system
